Title:
Mechanics of multilattices

Abstract:
Many materials of current interest manifest themselves as multilattices.
Examples include graphene, hexagonal boron-nitride, alpha-germanium and quartz (silicon dioxide). We review the need for its constitutive modeling and present a novel framework capable of describing all monoatomic multilattices both in the linear and nonlinear regime. Such a multiscale approach takes into account degrees of freedom from the discrete picture all the way up to the continuum and helps improving continuum theories for such materials.

Short Bio:
Dimitris Sfyris is a principal researcher at IACM/FORTH. He holds a Mathematics degree from University of Ioannina, a MSc degree from Applied Mathematics, NTUA and a PhD from University of Thessaloniki. His research focuses primarily on problems from Mechanics, including elasticity and plasticity themes. Currently he concentrates on the constitutive modeling of multilattices.
