Dr. Poulicos Prastacos is Director of Research in the Regional Analysis Division of the Institute of Applied and Computational Mathematics, FORTH.
He holds a Ph.D. in Transportation Systems and Regional Planning from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (1981), a Master of Science in Construction Management from the University of Illinois (1976), and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Columbia University (1975). His main research interests include GIS applications for transportation, environment, regional planning; statistical, geographic and environmental databases; web GIS and applications on the internet; development of land use, transportation, and regional economic models; implementation of decision support systems.
In the past he was associate professor at Stanford University (http://www.stanford.edu), California and Senior Planner at the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) (http://www.abag.ca.gov) in Oakland in charge of the design and development of forecasting models for the San Francisco Bay Area. He has collaborated with many organizations in Europe and the USA on the development of environmental and statistical databases, design of transportation and economic forecasting models, linking models with GIS databases and implementing methods for impact assessment. He has published more than thirty scientific papers in the areas of transportation modeling, mathematical models, integration of GIS tools in decision support, and environmental information systems.
