Dr. Poulicos Prastacos is Director of Research in the Regional Analysis group at the Institute of Applied and Computational Mathematics at the Foundation of Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH). He holds a Ph.D. in Transportation Systems and Regional Planning from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, (http://engineering.illinois.edu/, 1981), a Master of Science in Construction Management from the University of Illinois (1976), and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Columbia University (http://civil.columbia.edu/, 1975). After his graduation he worked for the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG, http://www.abag.ca.gov/), (1980-1989) developing land use transportation models and various statistical databases. He taught on a part time at Stanford University (http://engineering.stanford.edu/about ) as a consulting associate professor (1987-89) and performed various consulting assignments with Urban MicroSystems (1990-2001) related to GIS systems installation and development. In 1995 he was elected Director of Research at FORTH and since then he has been in charge of the Regional Analysis group. The group is involved with the development of spatial decision support systems and GIS applications in the areas of urban planning, management of environmental resources, remote sensing and statistical analysis. Through various projects funded by the EU and the Greek Government he has participated in more than 20 research projects in these areas and has published about 50 papers in scientific journals and conference proceedings. During 2002-2008 he was part time lecturer at the Athens School of Economics and Business (AUEB, http://www.aueb.gr/). In the private sector he has been involved with startup companies in Greece involved with the development of road maps for Greece, and various applications related to road telematics (radio taxis, AVL etc.).
