Nikos Benas is a postdoctoral researcher at the Regional Analysis Division of the Institute of Applied and Computational Mathematics, FORTH. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Physics Department of the University of Crete, his Master degree at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Crete (“Brain and Mind” interdepartmental postgraduate program), and his PhD also at the Physics Department of the University of Crete. His doctoral research focused on the estimation of the aerosol direct effect on the solar radiation budget in the atmosphere at local scales, and the corresponding effects on the tropospheric ozone photolysis rate and potential evaporation. He has also worked as a research assistant at the Regional Analysis Division, and under a postgraduate fellowship at the Environmental Studies Laboratory of FORTH. His research interests include atmospheric radiation transfer modeling, satellite aerosol and thermal remote sensing, and aerosol and cloud effects on climate.
