Title: Interactions between prefrontal cortex and area V4 in attention (2010 - 2013)
Funding Framework: EU/Marie Curie FP7-PEOPLE-2009-RG
Description: Study of the neuronal interactions between brain areas in the prefrontal lobe and extrastriate visual areas in the temporal lobe when visual selective attention is employed

Description: Our perception of the world assumes that we actively seek signals within it. To this end we turn receptors (e.g., retinal photoreceptors, mechanoreceptors of on our fingertips, etc.) towards non-random points. The coordination assumed in such movements is non-trivial since the relevant receptors are located on limbs that differ as regards their mechanical, kinematic, dynamic and other properties. To execute such movements we also need to generate an internal map of the outside world. The manner in which this is accomplished for subcortical areas and visual targets is reasonably well understood. However, it is unclear how this is done when the targets are not seen and what populations of neurons accomplish this. Nor is the manner in which we understand the movement of somebody else known.
